The Runway Sniper #67

Armani Privé Fall Winter 2010

The world of couture is reserved for the elite few who can afford and appreciate the finest of craftsmanship and creativity. I cannot claim to decipher the world of couture, but it is a platform to showcase all the most exquisite and 'out of this world' pieces that all women will aspire to wear one day.

Reserved only for selected houses to show during couture fashion week, Giorgio Armani is one of these respected fashion visionaries. His Giorgio Armani Privé Fall Winter 2010 collection looked destined for the next red carpet season. Defined by a focused direction around 'A play on amber', the entire collection explores this most natural but luxurious of shades: from havana, sandalwood, rosewood, darkest wenge and translucent tortoiseshell through to the warm faceted tones of true amber.

I would have wished some of the pieces had been given an added luxe factor and go a little extravagant in the design idea. Since it is couture, pushing the limits of fashion imagination is paramount. The day wear in this collection seemed too regular, just like any Armani pieces from his other line even though they are as luxurious as they can get.

However, the one dress that wins my vote wholeheartedly is a stunning sequined number, fluid and glistening on Karlie Kloss. Simply breath-taking as she walked down the runway. I am sure many celebrity stylists are already eyeing on this special piece to fit one of their distinguished client for any upcoming red carpet events.

Boots For Fall Winter 2009/2010

As reported on WWD's website, boots of equestrian and hiking inspirations are the quintessential looks for gentlemen at play next season. Antique burnishing, oversize stitching and lug soles add a rustic edge to the season’s best designer boots. 'Bootie' call?

Great Minds Think Alike #07

Giorgio Armani vs. Dolce & Gabbana

Check out this article...seems there is some 'catfight' on the Fall Winter 2009/2010 Milan Menswear shows.

Giorgio Armani has criticised the Dolce Gabbana duo of copying his designs on a pair of quilted pants. So who do you think 'wins the case'?:-P

Article from Fashionologie:

In what
is being alternately called "the most acidic row to hit the fashion world in 15 years," and "Trousergate," Giorgio Armani accused Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana of copying his Fall 2008 quilted pants (left) and putting them on their Fall 2009 runway Sunday (right).

Armani is notoriously bold about defending his designs, and noted that Dolce & Gabbana used a design he claimed as his own no less than 16 times on the runway: "I would understand if they were nobodies. But honestly!"

It's not every day that one high-end designer will accuse another of copying — the most recent similar event occurred in the early '90s, when Yves Saint Laurent successfully sued Ralph Lauren for copying a black tuxedo dress he had created 30 years earlier — and Armani threatened: "Now they are copying. Later, they will learn."

Quick to reply, Dolce & Gabbana fired back Monday in a statement: "Surely we still have much to learn. But definitely not from him. Stylistically, the Armani style is not, and has never been, an inspiration source for us and we stopped seeing his fashion shows years ago." All this over a quilted pair of pants.
