Moose and Fish, Yin-Yang, Fat-Quarter aka Tri-Fold

Yin-Yang Scrap-bag Pattern with fussy cut Moose.
What a cryptic title, unless you are intimately familiar with my line of sewing patterns.  Fyi, Moose and Fish are the theme, the rest are pattern titles.

Most of my quilt shop customers order from my distributors. Because of this I don't even know who they are, so it's not easy to be familiar with them. And I doubt that they are intimately familiar with my entire product line, since most distributors carry only part of my line up. I am extremely grateful my distributors exist as well as the customers that buy from them. It's just that it's really nice to know your customers personally.

When I was traveling shop to shop I got to know many of my shop owner customers - it was a great time. While I have currently curtailed the road trips for the time being, I still love to hear from and connect with my customers. When a shop calls to place their order I get to know a little about them, their shop and sometimes their customers.

Here's an example. A few days ago I received a phone call from a shop in Alaska. We chatted about the fish artwork (walleyes) that I've been doing. She was wondering how we could get that fish artwork onto fabric and into a sample? That lead to conversations about printing on fabric with inkjet printers plus . . . elk, deer and moose. She put in a request that I do some moose next.  You've maybe heard the saying "put a bird on it" regarding the bird trend that is still going on in product design. Well, she says, "Anything with a moose on it"! Before the conversation was over I was sending her a trunk show with a pattern order to match! This prompted me to do something I don't usually do. I went shopping for moose and fish fabrics then promptly sewed these samples for her to use along with the trunk show.

Nuance and Sun Stone by Paula Nadelstern for Benartex.

Have you seen these? Nuance and Sun Stone by Paula Nadelstern for Benartex.

I couldn't wait to get my needle into these gorgeous fabrics.
Hand quilted detail was fun to do.

Using my Fat-Quarter Scrap-bag™ pattern
I stitched up this clutch bag in about 30 minutes!

Now I have to say that I am not a 'glitzy girl' BUT
if I was this would be the perfect candidate for
some beading or crystals!

Photo below shows the back of the clutch, complete
with woven Scrap-bags™ label.

View below shows the coordinating lining along with the
magnetic snap closures.

What to do with those jelly rolls?

What to do with those jelly rolls? Not the kind you eat, but the rolled and bundled strips of fabric the quilt shops are selling.
Here's an idea . . .

(If you don't have a jelly roll - you can always cut the strips yourself - the old fashioned way)

Ahh . . . yes. I couldn't help but do a little embellishing with those fabric beads. Love those fabric beads I made earlier!

This pattern normally uses a single fat-quarter cut in half. I sewed the strips together and then cut out the bag piece using the lining piece as a template, laying it on an angle and then cutting the stripped piece the same size.

Follow the simple instructions found in the pattern to finish this bag.

Fat-Quarter Scrap-bag™ project with hand pieced hexagons!

These hexagons need at least a 4" x4" scrap, but you could do the same project with smaller hexagons and smaller scraps.

I love hand piecing hexagons. I do this mainly while sitting with my husband while we watch TV. I never have a plan for those hexagons . . . I just do a batch and then set them aside and eventually an idea will strike and I apply them to a project. (PS. I get my best ideas while I am hand piecing or hand quilting, but the TV has to be off)

Here's the back side of the pieced hexagons with most of the paper hexagons removed.

After pressing the entire piece, I trimmed it to 11x17 (half of a fat quarter because I used the Fat-Quarter Scrap-bag™ Pattern) I used a coordination batik fabric for the lining.

Then I fused the piece to a fusible fleece and did a decorative top stitch. I finished the bag by following the instructions from the Fat-Quarter Scrap-bag™ pattern.

Winter Inspiration from the Scrap-bags Studio

I don't know what the weather is like where you live. But, here in Minnesota it's very BLACK and WHITE. It's cold and snowy and a bit gray. I think it's beautiful.

I've chosen some bags that reflect those same qualtities. Sorry I don't have the fabric info to share this time. I used my STASH and scraps don't always have the selvage info.

If you live in the north and are not a fan of winter like I am, don't worry . . . out of winter comes spring. It never fails. Every night after work, I peruse the new seed catalogs that have arrived!
